In 2014, the Helena Parks and Recreation’s Code Enforcement Officer approached GIS Services requesting the development of mobile applications for field work. The Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for documenting and enforcing infractions for a variety of violations. After researching mobile options and capabilities, GIS Services created multiple theme-specific HTML5 applications providing ‘live’ editing in the field. The presentation will include an overview of the collaborative efforts between GIS Services and City of Helena Parks and Recreation to design the data and applications. The presentation will also include a brief review of Latitude Geographic’s Geocortex Essentials application, and how the COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) software has been utilized for mobile applications. Lastly, we will provide a live demonstration of the applications while sharing best practices.
